A look at bills introduced Thursday, Jan. 13

MORGANTOWN – Here is a look at some of the bills introduced on Thursday, Jan. 13. Local sponsors and cosponsors, if any, are noted.

SB 255, to prohibit state contracts or investments with companies who purposefully boycott energy companies. Sen. Randy Smith, R-Tucker, co-sponsor.

SB 256, to prohibit civil rights violations based on disability, gender identity, or sexual orientation.

SB 267, to clarify the authority of the county board of education to transport students in county owned and insured vehicles, and to provide that a parent, guardian, or another adult approved in writing by a parent may transport students in privately owned vehicles.

HB 4001, to create the Legislative Oversight Commission on Department of Economic Development Accountability, the Conduit Installation Fund, the Dig Once Fund, the Broadband Middle Mile Fund and the Pole Replacement and Relocation Fund. Delegate Phil Mallow, R-Marion, co-sponsor.

HB 4002, deals with the Certified Sites and Development Readiness Program and creates the Certified Sites and Development Readiness Fund.

HB 4062, to remove the residency requirement for the Commissioner of the Division of Highways. The Commissioner of Highways is the only commissioner currently required to reside at the “state capital.” Requested by DOH.

HB 4072, to increase amount of a Promise Scholarship to cover present days costs: $9,200.

HB 4076, to exempt the full amount of social security benefits from personal income taxation. Delegate Amy Summers, R-Taylor, lead sponsor.
