Bloom to lead Mon Commission in 2022

MORGANTOWN — The Monongalia County Commission began its first meeting of 2022 by passing the president’s gavel from Sean Sikora to Tom Bloom.

This year will mark Bloom’s 10th year as a commissioner and third stint as commission president.

“I’m excited to continue the work the commission has accomplished under the leadership of President Sean Sikora,” Bloom said. “This is going to be a very eventful and exciting year for the county citizens and for the county commission.”

Sikora is seeking re-election this fall. He explained that while it’s tradition for the commissioner up for re-election to serve as president, he vowed not to do so during his 2016 campaign.

“The commission should be focused on citizen issues and not the personal ambitions of any one commissioner,” he said.

Also on Wednesday, the commission approved a $10,000 funding request from the Mylan Park Foundation for wayfinding signage within the park.

Lastly, the commission approved a schedule of Feb. 1, 4, 9, 14, 17 and 22 to sit as the board of review and equalization.

The board of review and equalization is the body before which residents can question their property taxes.
