
Norman Dwane Benson, 85, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully Dec. 28, 2021. He was born Oct. 13, 1936 in Pisgah, a son of the late Henry and Georgia Benson.
He was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Alice Benson; two daughters, Nina Benson and Martha Runco; one son, Kerry Benson and wife Joyce; and three granddaughters, Danika, Shauna and Abby Runco.
He is also survived by one brother, Warren Benson (Bonnie); three sisters, Joyce Champion (Ron), June Kay Carroll and Betty Jane Riggleman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbert Benson and Carl Clyde “Joe” Benson, and one sister, Carol Sue Thomas.
Dwane was a talented, hardworking and valued employee, who took great pride in his work. He graduated from Kingwood High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958-63. His ship was stationed in the Bremerton, Wash. shipyard, where he met and married the love of his life, Alice Jensen.
He later returned to West Virginia with his young family and worked for the Boilermakers Local No. 667 as a welder for
30 years, until he retired.
Dwane and Alice enjoyed traveling and visiting numerous state parks throughout the United States. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and respected him due to his witty, sweet and compassionate demeanor.
Due to the ongoing COVID pandemic, no public services will be held. Cremation was arranged by the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home.
