John Bernard Gillespie Sr., 74, of Morgantown, passed away Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021, at Mon Health Medical Center. He was born April 11, 1947, in Morgantown, a son of the late Charles and Rosie Gillespie.
He was a devoted family man and a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, of 50 years, Patty Gillespie; daughters, Karen Friggens and Tammy Straub and husband Carl; and son, John Gillespie Jr. and wife Stacey. He is also survived by a sister, Shirley Saunders.
John was a huge Pittsburgh Penguins and Steelers fan. Nothing brought him more joy than being with his family, but especially his five grandchildren, Jakob and Scott Straub, Samson Gillespie and Samantha and Abigail Friggens.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Gillespie Jr., Harold Gillespie and sister Elizabeth “Liz” Bolyard.
Visitation will be held at Fred L. Jenkins Funeral home, from 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 30, until the time of the funeral service at noon. John will be laid to rest at East Oak Grove Cemetery in Morgantown.
