Meals on Wheels recognizes volunteers

Morgantown Area Meals on Wheels thanked its volunteers with a “We Are Thankful for Our Volunteers” project for Thanksgiving.

Meals on Wheels drivers have continued to drive throughout the pandemic to ensure MOW clients, some of the most vulnerable members of the Morgantown community, continued to receive hot, nutritious meals in their homes.

The Meals on Wheels project was devised to let each volunteer know how much they are appreciated for their support. Each driver was given a Thanksgiving card and a gas card the week before Thanksgiving. Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers not only give freely of their time, but they drive their own vehicles and incur associated costs.

“We could not deliver the almost 600 meals prepared each week in our kitchen without our volunteer drivers,” said Meals on Wheels Manager Kathy Molnar. “This project allowed us to express our appreciation to those who continue to make Meals on Wheels possible in the Morgantown community.”

This project is made possible with support by Volunteer West Virginia. Morgantown Area Meals on Wheels received a $500 mini-grant from Volunteer West to host the recognition project.

Volunteer West Virginia started the Volunteer Recognition Mini Grant Program to recognize West Virginia’s volunteers for  outstanding volunteerism during COVID-19.

Over 3,500 volunteers, from throughout the state, will be recognized through this program. To learn more visit www.volunteer.wv.gov.
