Philip Johnson

Philip Wayne “Nute” Johnson, 61, of Tunnelton, died on Monday, Nov. 22, 2021, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C., with family by his side.

He was born Dec. 22, 1959, in Tunnelton, a son of the late Bobby Lee and Nancy Childers Johnson.

Nute loved his family, especially Jason’s three daughters. He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church and a member of VFW Post 826. He loved working on his 1946 Ford coupe, the Mountaineers, camping, hunting, fishing and NASCAR. He was the owner/operator of the “No Where Bar & Grill” in Tunnelton.

He is survived by four sons, Jason Johnson and wife Amanda, of Summerville, S.C., David Yates and wife Crystle and Keith Yates, all of Hollywood, Md., and Michael Davison, of Phoenix; one daughter, Kristal Johnson, of Tunnelton; eight brothers, Gerald, Perry and wife Vicky, Larry and wife Pat, David and wife Bonnie, Thomas and wife Linda, Tony and wife Sherry, Louis and wife Brenda and Dean and wife Squeak; six grandchildren, Austin, Brittney, Kaydence, Aria, Piper and Wyatt; two great-grandchildren, Payton and Oliver; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Timothy Johnson; an uncle, John Childers; and an aunt, Christine Hodgkins.

Friends may call at the Browning Funeral Home in Kingwood, from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 30, where a wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. to conclude visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, with Father Soosa Arokiadass as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Childers Cemetery.
