Morgantown Police investigate body found in Monongahela River

MORGANTOWN — Morgantown Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a body found in the Monongahela River Friday evening.

According to a release from the department, fishermen reported seeing a body floating in the river at about 5 p.m. Friday. When they responded, officers, along with firefighters from Morgantown Fire Department, found the body in the water, in the area of Monongahela Boulevard, “north of the power station on Beechurst Avenue and south of the WVU Core Arboretum. “

The body was positively identified as Jeffrey Uphold, 23, of Bruceton Mills. Uphold’s family reported him missing to MPD on Sept. 14. Uphold’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Charleston for an autopsy.
