Denzil Knotts

Denzil Joe Knotts, 74, of Fellowsville, passed away on Monday, Sept. 13, 2021 at the VA Hospital in Clarksburg. He was born in Tunnelton, on Dec. 7, 1946, son of the late Archie Monroe Knotts and Lelah Montell (Wolfe) Tomlinson.

Denzil served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal and the Rifle Expert Badge. He was a member of the Tunnelton VFW Post #2345. He retired as a truck driver for ABF Freight out of Charleston, International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local Union #175 with over 2 million miles accident free over the years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to Silver Lake and playing pool and cards. In his younger years he loved fast cars, the poker machines and gambling.

Denzil is survived by his wife, Roberta Cornwell Knotts; seven children: John “Rick” Holden, of Parkersburg, Denny Joe Knotts and Darlene, of Parkersburg, Perry Knotts and Bessie, of Belpre, Ohio, Cody Knotts, Phillip Austin and Courtney, of Thornton, Adam Austin, of Thornton, Hilary Austin and Brian, Grafton; 11 grandchildren, Shawn, Nathan, Taylor, Sammie, Cole, Savannah, Grizzly, Hunter, Tyson, Markiah and Dustin; two great-grandchildren, Alauric and Gwenavere; two brothers, Eugene and Janet Knotts of Walker, and Hallie and Beverly Knotts, of Manheim; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Denzil was preceded in death by one son at infancy, Hallie Knotts; and one sister, Emma Jean Montell Luzader and husband Richard.
Family and friends will be received at Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Ave. Newburg, from 1-6 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 19, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at noon Monday, Sept. 20, with Tammy Phillips officiating. Interment will be at Sanders Hill Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Preston County Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Honor Guard of Camp Dawson.
