Tanios released to home confinement

MORGANTOWN — Morgantown business owner George Tanios has been authorized for partial release after spending several months in a Washington D.C. jail.

Senior Judge Thomas Hogan, of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, said Tanios will be required to surrender his passport and weapons, and will remain under home incarceration for 30 days with GPS monitoring. If GPS monitoring is not available, radio frequency will be used.

After 30 days, Tanios will be permitted to apply to leave home to work.

Tanios and his friend Julian Khater, of New Jersey, are charged with pepper-spraying Officer Brian Sicknick during the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, who died a day later. Both are charged with 10 felonies for their alleged actions.
