Fish out of Water visits Morgantown

A record-setting bass — the world’s only Bassmobile — was spotted in Marilla Park on Thursday.

AmBASSadors from the Catch Co. taught kids participating in BOPARC’s summer camp how to cast a fishing line.

“We travel the entire country to promote the sport of fishing and rescue people from the indoors,” Tyler Brick said. “So, Catch Co., our mission is just to kind of stay ahead of the game and make fishing fun and accessible.”

The Bassmobile “is just a big giant monstrosity of a bass that travels all around the country” to promote the sport of fishing, Brick said.

Brick and his fellow amBASSador Benny Schuman started that journey about two weeks ago. Brick said he couldn’t imagine a better job than traveling around, talking fishing, teaching kids to fish and having fun playing games.

Renee Taylor, BOPARC program manager, said Catch Co., founded in 2012, reached out to BOPARC about the Bassmobile tour stopping by BOPARC’s summer camp.

“Oh, they loved it,” Taylor said. “The kids just really had a good time with everything.”

The rods used to teach campers how to cast had hooks removed from the lures that were tied on. In addition to learning to cast, which is a game in itself,  there was a game using a rod to hook plastic fish, and a coloring station.

Catch Co. is based in Chicago and, among other things, offers a fishing subscription service worldwide and develops fishing brands and products sold online and in retail stores.

The Bassmobile will be on tour for about six months. Today, it will be at the Ragnar Trail Race from 5-10 p.m. in Bruceton Mills.
