Preston e-cycling program open to non-residents

KINGWOOD — You don’t have to live in Preston County to participate in the Preston County e-cycling program. The event will be held from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 21 in the Craig Civic Center parking lot.

Participants in the event must enter at the Price Street entrance, across from Kingwood Elementary School.

Don Smith, who represents the Preston County Commission on the Preston County Solid Waste board, said the board purchased seven arrow-shaped signs that will direct traffic during the event.

Smith said anyone can drop off electronics during the event. He said the only charge will be for CRT’s, which will cost $5 in cash for each CRT that is dropped off.

A CRT is a display device incorporating a cathode-ray tube, such as an older television.

Board members voted to have Smith submit the 2022 Solid Waste Management Board grant application. Next year’s grant request will be for $14,782. Smith said he added a line item to the grant requesting $1,200 for educational material.

He said the $1,200, if received, will be used to inform residents where they can take recyclables.

In other business, board members voted to provide $884 to repair scales used by the town of Terra Alta in its recycling program. Terra Alta Mayor James Tasker said the $884 would cover parts and labor to have the scales repaired.

Tasker also asked board members about purchasing recycling bins similar to those in Kingwood. Smith asked Tasker to get information about the bins and their cost and submit it to the PCSWA board.
