Master Gardener Program accepting applications

MORGANTOWN — The Monongalia County Master Gardener Program is now accepting applications for the fall 2021 program. Classes will begin at 6 p.m. Aug. 26. Due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, classes will be virtual and will continue from 6-9 p.m. Thursdays, ending Nov. 18. Registration for the class will close Aug. 20.

The program is designed to make gardening a fun learning experience and uses trained volunteers to assist the WVU-Monongalia County Extension in disseminating research-based knowledge.

The nonrefundable cost is $90 for a print version of the manual or $45 for a USB version of the manual. This also covers class materials, Monongalia County Master Gardener Organization dues and a name badge, which will be received upon certification.

The educational hours include sessions on pesticides, soils and fertilizers, plant propagation, plant diseases and pruning, among other topics. Current Monongalia County Master Gardeners volunteer throughout the county, including at the West Virginia Botanic Garden, WVU Core Arboretum or by maintaining neighborhood gardens. They also make presentations to garden clubs, civic groups and other public groups.

Anyone interested in the class can request an application packet by contacting the WVU-Monongalia County Extension office at 304-291-7201 or emailing MonongaliaCountyExtension@mail.wvu.edu.
