Giant Eagle reinstates in-store mask requirement

Newsroom@DominionPost.com

As  increases in positive COVID-19 cases across communities and the country, Giant Eagle is reinstituting the wearing of face masks, cloth face coverings or face shields for team members and customers this week, inclusive of all vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.

All Giant Eagle, Inc. store, retail support center and corporate office team members will be required to wear a face mask, cloth face covering or face shield starting  today.

Management strongly requests that customers comply with the same mask requirement, starting Friday. We will have team members ready at each store to provide a complimentary mask for any customer who does not have one when they visit. Additionally,  Giant Eagle curbside pickup and delivery service continues to be available for those who prefer the convenience of having a team member shop for them.

The introduction of the Delta variant has created a renewed sense of urgency across our communities. Recent data suggests that the Delta variant is more contagious, making vaccinated individuals more prone to transmitting the virus and leaving those unvaccinated at higher risk of illness and hospitalization. In response, Giant Eagle is increasing resources dedicated to educating  team members about the benefits and risks of COVID-19 vaccinations. And management is reviewing paths forward regarding a potential vaccination requirement for team members.
