Mall welcomes local communities back to school

The start of a new school year can bring about excitement, whether through reconnecting with friends or preparing for a year full of new things to learn.

Whether students and teachers are reentering the classroom for the first time, continuing to learn virtually, or have remained in-person throughout the past year, Morgantown Mall is providing the community with many  ways to celebrate the fresh start of a new school year. Through a selection of upcoming events, guests will be able to savor the last moments of summer and prepare for school in style.

“We are excited to prepare kids, families and educators in the Morgantown and surrounding communities for this coming school year,” said Felicia Posey, general manager at Morgantown Mall. “This school year will be especially memorable as many students return to in-person learning, and at Morgantown Mall, we want to support guests and offer ways to celebrate the start of an exciting new year in the classroom.”

As teachers transition back into the classroom, Morgantown Mall will show them some love through a Teacher Appreciation Event from 10 a.m.-noon  Aug. 14. Educators can enjoy a teacher-exclusive breakfast and crafting session featuring a project from local craft experts The WOW! Factory. Space is limited and reservations are required. Children will also have the opportunity to celebrate going back to school through the KidX Club Back to School Party from 2-5 p.m.  Aug. 14. The event will feature hands-on activities, games, music and more. The Back to School Party will take place near the food court.

To help local students and educators prepare for the upcoming year, Morgantown Mall will kick off a Stuff the Bus Supply Drive during the Back to School Party. Guests are encouraged to drop off school supply items at the mall  Aug. 14-24. Donations will benefit area school districts.

As a new addition to Morgantown Mall’s annual back-to-school events,  there will be an interactive Chalk It Up wall for guests to share their favorite part of a new school year or a memory from a time when they were in school. The community is invited to write what they are looking forward to, while also offering notes of appreciation to their teachers. The Chalk It Up wall will be  near the food court.

The mall will also help guests prepare for a new academic year through participating in a Tax-Free Weekend Friday through Monday. Community members can spend the weekend shopping tax-free for their back-to-school needs.

Morgantown Mall remains focused on providing a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. All Back to School festivities will adhere to  rigorous cleaning and disinfectant practices. All guests should  conduct themselves in a safe and respectful way in accordance with all federal, state and local regulations, recommendations and mandates, while also adhering to each individual tenant’s policies.
