Gladys Bissett

Gladys Dalton Bissett, 86, of Gum Springs Road, Morgantown, passed peacefully with family at her side on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at the Mon Health Medical Center.

Gladys was born Dec. 6, 1934, at home in Morgantown, the daughter of Charles Faye and Myrtle Burns Dalton.

Gladys was a graduate of Morgantown High School and later retired as a pharmacy technician in Sheffield Lake, Ohio. She returned to Morgantown, where she worked as a clerical secretary in medical records at the J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Gladys attended Lorain Church of God in Lorain, Ohio and the Mount Calvary Assembly of God Church in Westover, where she taught Sunday School and was active in Women’s Ministry. Gladys was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

She was not afraid to try something new and loved to keep up with friends, family, and current events through Facebook and Snapchat. She was a talented quilter and seamstress and loved a good book. Nothing, however, could compare to gathering together with her family, whether traveling to nearby vacation destinations or simply gathering around a meal in her kitchen.

She is survived by her children, Jim Bissett, of Ohio, Karen Bissett Rutherford, and husband, Clarence of Mich., Norman Bissett and his wife Nancy, of Ohio, and Chuck Bissett and his wife Tonya, of Ohio; four grandchildren, Melanie Rutherford, Missy Long, Hannah Bissett and Norman Bissett; four great-grandchildren, Jacob and Charlie Heredia, P.J. Colegrove, Alivia Grace Long and her sister Linda Sine, of Conway, S.C.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Franklin Bissett; one son, Clifford Bissett; a daughter-in-law, Janet Bissett; grandsons, James Bissett and Jim Rutherford; and her siblings, Jack and Junior Dalton and Erma Getz.

The family will receive friends at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home, from 10 a.m., Friday, July 23, until the time of services at 11 a.m., with the Rev. John L. Whitehair officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown.
