James Cooper

James M. “Jim” Cooper, 90, of Morgantown, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021, at his home. He was born in Mount Morris, Pa., on Nov. 25, 1930, the son of the late Walter Grayson and Elva Gladys (Beal) Cooper.

He attended Mount Morris High School and graduated from University High School in 1948. He graduated in 1952 from West Virginia University School of Agriculture and Forestry. He was a member of the WVU Alumni Association and the WVU Agriculture and Forestry Alumni Association.

Jim retired after 30 years with the Soil Conservation Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, having served in Michigan, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. He served in the U.S. Army, with a tour of duty in Korea. He was an amateur radio operator and a Red Cross volunteer. He taught at the Adult Learning Center, Monongalia County Technical Education Center, and was a past member of the Pines Country Club.

He is survived by daughters, Kristen, of Morgantown, and Polly, (William) Green, of Cary, N.C.; sister, Mary Jo Horton, of New Philadelphia, Ohio; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; sisters, Ruth and Helen June; and brother, Allen.

Hastings Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
