Jamaican Spice owner announces closure

The owner of Jamaican Spice, a West Indian-themed restaurant on Green Bag Road, announced the seemingly permanent closure of the business via a Facebook post on Wednesday.

In the social media statement, the owner wrote they had regretfully made the decision to shut down the business. The last day of operation for Jamaican Spice will be July 31.

The owner said the decision to close the business was not an easy one and they enjoyed the relationships they’d developed with customers over the years.

“I would like to thank all the customers I have done business with for over a year and a half. Jamaican Spice could not have been a business without your loyalty,” the owner said.

Prior to the closure announcement, Jamaican Spice had been operating three days a week: 11 a.m.–7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 12 p.m.–7 p.m. Saturday. The restaurant will maintain that schedule until its final day of service.

While the official statement on Facebook does not indicate what factors led the owner to decide to close the business, the restaurant has closed temporarily multiple times before — in March, when the owner said on social media that they were experiencing difficulties maintaining a balance between work and caring for their children; in January, due to unforeseen circumstances; and in June 2020, for undisclosed reasons.

The restaurant was closed on Thursday due to a family emergency and a representative of the business was unavailable.
