Mountaineers to welcome 5 high-ranking prospects to campus prior to summer dead period

BY KEENAN CUMMINGS | Rivals.com

West Virginia has already hosted 23 official visitors this summer and has generated some serious momentum on the recruiting trail with multiple commitments and several others high on the program.

And prior to the start of the summer dead period June 28, there is one more official visit group set to arrive in Morgantown this week to see what the Big 12 Conference program has to offer.

While these lists are always fluid with prospects moving in and out the picture, the Mountaineers are set to welcome another talented group of targets to campus from June 24-26.

Germantown (Md.) Northwest wide receiver Peter Kikwata is one of those and while he has already been to campus after camping at the beginning of June this will be a chance to get the complete picture of the Mountaineers football program. Kikwata, a Rivals.com four-star prospect, comes from the same high school as 2021 four-star pass catcher signee Kaden Prather.

That connection, as well as the way that offensive coordinator Gerad Parker has recruited him, puts WVU in a good position heading into the trip after previously taking an official to South Carolina.

Another pass catcher expected to be in town is Knoxville (Tenn.) Catholic wide receiver Tommy Winton. Like Kikwata, he has already been to campus this summer but this trip will be more in-depth and allow him to get a real feel for what Morgantown has to offer. Along with WVU, Virginia Tech and Tennessee are two other programs involved and this trip could go a long way toward determining his destination considering that he wants to make a college choice this summer.

A trio of pass rushers also are expected to be in town with Clearwater Academy (Fla.) defensive end Aric Burton, Wayne (N.J.) De Paul Catholic defensive end Q’yaeir Price and Atlanta (Ga.) Westlake defensive end Zion Young. Each of those have the Mountaineers high on their list heading into the visit and would fill a need for the program in this recruiting cycle as athletic edge presences.

Burton, a native of Germany, received an offer from WVU after a strong camp performance in June and is associated with the same PPI international group that has already sent several prospects to play in Morgantown such as Victor Wikstrom, Edward Vesterinen and Jairo Faverus.

WVU is now up to eight total commitments in the 2022 class and sits right outside the top 25 in the latest Rivals.com recruiting rankings. There are a number of other prospects that currently have the Mountaineers either at the top or right in the mix as well.

It’s been a productive month of June on the recruiting trail and the WVU coaches are hoping to go out with a bang with the final set of official visitors making it to campus.
