Mal’s Fresh Produce brings fresh foods from local farms

Looking for some fresh produce for your next cookout? Mal’s Fresh Produce has you covered.

Mal’s Fresh Produce focuses on bringing the freshest fruits and tastiest vegetables from local family farms straight to your table. The store restocks daily and provides a large selection of fresh produce and grass-fed meats, as well as Amish canned items from Walnut Creek, Ohio.

The store opened its doors on May 18, 2021, and is owned by 21-year-old Mallory Moholt, of Maryland, who is a WVU alumni with a degree in marketing.

Moholt gets her produce from local farms within a 60-mile radius. All products are picked within a few hours and brought directly to the store.

“Our goal is to source as many local farmers that have the products in-season that we need and what customers are wanting and needing,” said Moholt.

Mal’s Fresh Produce has a seasonal curbside produce stand outside of the Pierpont Centre, next to the Exxon gas station on Cheat Road, that is convenient for customers who need to stop by quickly, but the new storefront plans to be open year-round.

The produce stand carries a wide variety of fruits and vegetables such as juicy tomatoes, watermelons, cantaloupe, zucchini, and peppers. The storefront carries many more products like strawberries, blueberries, asparagus, local eggs, beef, and honey, as well as plants.

Now through October, Mal’s Fresh Produce will have fresh, in-season produce that comes in from local farms.

“I’ve been really blessed to be able to connect with people and the appreciation that the community has shown is crazy,” said Moholt. “I just want to be able to create an atmosphere where people are happy to come in and feel nourished with the things that they take home.”

In summer 2020, Moholt opened a produce stand and, from the success and support, she had a vision to create a local store because of the high demand of fresh produce. “We needed something here in Morgantown that people could rely on having consistent, fresh and tasty products.”

Moholt is determined to keep the store thriving and improving every day.

“I had a vision and I had faith. It was a lot of work from finding a location, to finding contractors, and so on,” said Moholt. “It was a long journey and giving up was not an option. This was a need that needed to be met in the community and I am beyond blessed with the success it has met already.”

Mal’s Fresh Produce is located at 312 Old Cheat Road, and is open every day from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. For more information about Mal’s Fresh Produce, as well as updates on specials and new items, check out their Facebook and Instagram pages @malsfreshproduce.
