Woman killed in jump or fall from Marriott parking garage

MORGANTOWN — A woman jumped or fell Friday morning from the top of the parking garage behind the Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place.

“At the moment, it appears to be intentional,” Morgantown Police Chief Eric Powell told The Dominion Post.

The woman, who died, is not from the area and the Morgantown Police Department is attempting to notify next of kin right now, Powell said.

A medical examiner was not called to the scene as with Ben Pravecek, a 20-year-old WVU student who jumped or fell from the University Place parking garage in April and was declared dead at the scene.

The incident was reported to 911 at 9:49 a.m., according to a MECCA 911 supervisor.

When The Dominion Post arrived on scene shortly after 10 a.m., the victim was being treated in a Mon EMS ambulance between the parking garage attached to the rear of the hotel and the rail-trail. After more than 10 minutes, the ambulance left with its patient.

A detective from the Morgantown Police Department was on-scene. After the woman was taken away, the detective was on top of the garage looking down.

The Morgantown Fire Department also responded.
