A list of Memorial Day events and activities

The city of Morgantown and its surrounding areas have much to offer for those interested in taking part in either Memorial Day celebrations or adventurous activities to take advantage of the long weekend.

Lakeview Golf Resort is hosting a Red, White & Blue Scramble at 8 a.m. Monday. Admission costs are $60 for members and $75 for non-members. These prices include rounds of golf, a barbecue lunch on the resort’s tiki deck, and prizes.

The format is a two-player scramble: each team picks six holes to play from the red, white and blue tees. There will be an optional skins game available.

To register, call Lakeview Golf Resort at 304-594-2011.

The 154th Annual Grafton Memorial Day Parade will take place starting at 10 a.m. Monday. Social distancing and masks are advised. The parade will begin at the intersection of Main Street and Bridge Street in Grafton.

Atlantic Coast Softball hosts a Troop Tribute softball event at Mylan Park. This three-day, six GG fastpitch event will run from 8 a.m. Saturday to 6:30 p.m. Monday. Bracket play will begin on Memorial Day.

The Troop Tribute will be Atlantic Coast’s first Mylan Park tournament of the year and is being held to celebrate and honor veterans.

The venue offers two grass infields, two skinned infields and two turf fields. No metal spikes, sunflower seeds or gum are permitted on or around the turf fields. A concession stand and restrooms are available at Mylan.

Harmony at Morgantown is hosting a Memorial Day Cookout from noon-1:30 p.m. Monday.

Harmony at Morgantown will provide cookout favorite food, drinks and refreshments. Seating is limited, so interested parties must call 304-212-4939 to reserve spots.

The cookout is designated to honor those who fought for our freedoms.

If you aren’t interested in a big Memorial Day celebration but still want to get out and enjoy the holiday weekend, consider area hiking options, like Coopers Rock State Forest in Bruceton Mills and Valley Falls State Park in Fairmont.

You could also look into camping options like Big Bear Lake Camplands in Bruceton Mills and the Rhododendron and McCollum camping areas at Coopers Rock State Forest, or area swimming options like Big Bear Lake in Bruceton Mills and Tygart Lake in Grafton, to enjoy the weather as well as some rest and recreation.
