Two die in wrong-way crash Friday

Two people are dead following a wrong-way crash Friday afternoon at the intersection of W.Va. 705 and Willowdale Road.

The victims were the driver and passenger in a Toyota Rav 4, which was traveling west in the eastbound lane of 705, the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department said in a release.

Their car collided with a Kia Sonoma, whose driver was also injured.

That person was transported to Mon Health Medical Center. His condition wasn’t immediately known Saturday.

Chief Deputy Mark Ralston said all names will be released at a later date.

Traffic was snarled for more than three hours following the crash, which happened around 1:44 p.m. near Milan Puskar Stadium.

The Toyota overturned in the impact, which also took out a traffic signal pole.

Crews from the Star City Volunteer Fire Department and Monongalia County Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene.

Meanwhile, the Major Crash Unit of the Sheriff’s Department, which includes detectives and accident reconstruction specialists, continued its investigation Saturday.
