Lorenzo Turner

Lorenzo James “Jim” Turner, 72, passed away at home of natural causes on Friday,
May, 14, 2021. He was born Oct. 11, 1948, in Morgantown, a son of Trubie Lemard Turner and Dorothy G. Helmick Turner.

Lorenzo was a graduate of University High School, Class of 1966. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and honorably served from 1966-69. He served in Vietnam with the 173rd Assault Helicopter Robin Hood Company from 1967-69. After returning from the service, Jim worked at the Department of Highways before going to work in the Osage No. 3 coal mine for CONSOL, where he retired after 33 years of service. For a brief period during the closure of the mines, he drove tractor-trailers for three years.

Lorenzo was a member of the Morgantown VFW Post 548. He was Presbyterian by faith, had a love for motorcycles, NASCAR and golf and loved to travel. He enjoyed his animals and always had treats for the neighborhood pets. He loved many types of music, cooking and baking. The grandkids will miss Papaw’s special pancakes. Lorenzo was as unique as they come, one of a kind.

Lorenzo is survived by his wife of 37 years, Connie L. Fleming Turner; daughter, Corinna J. Turner Cooper and husband Lloyd; son, Lorenzo J. Turner II and wife Michelle; grandchildren, Darian S., Mathias G. and Peyton Z. Turner, Liam J. Jefferson and Jessica D., Van M. and Damion M. Cooper. Also surviving are his brothers, Trubie L. Turner II and wife Sharon and Kirk A. Turner and wife Annette.
The family will receive friends at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home, from 4-8 p.m. Friday, May 21, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, May 22, and again 9-11 a.m. Sunday. The visitation will conclude with some special music. Graveside military rights will be conducted at the East Oak Grove Cemetery by the Morgantown & Westover VFW Posts and the WVANG, Kingwood, WV.
