PREP ROUNDUP: Heitmann’s grand slam leads UHS comeback bid

TENNERTON — Meysa Heitmann’s grand slam in the top of the seventh inning provided the University High softball team a 5-4 comeback win against Buckhannon-Upshur on Monday.

The hawks were trailing, 4-1, entering their final at-bats, but Heitmann’s blast gave UHS its first lead.

Pitcher Autumn Stemple made it stick with a scoreless seventh to record the win. Stemple pitched a complete game and struck out 15 over seven innings and allowed six hits and two walks.

Lindsey Vorndran added three hits for the Hawks and Ally Jansen had an RBI double.

Alyssa Rohr had two hits for B-U.

Girls’ tennis

Morgantown 6

Wheeling Park 1

Cat Wassick, Amy Lu, Kassie Regules and Sam Carver swept the four singles matches and the Mohigans took two of three in doubles play.

MHS (12-2) plays rival University High at 3:30 p.m. today.

Boys’ tennis

Wheeling Park 0

Ataes Aggarwal, Max Phillips-Hartley, Adien Aggarwal and Bennett Hall all swept the singles matches and the Mohigans also swept the three doubles matches.

MHS (14-1) will play rival University High at 3:30 p.m. today.

Boys’ lacrosse

University 15

Harrison County 4

Peyton Turner had four goals and two assists to lead University High past Harrison County.

Grant Oxley had 3 goals and an assist and Devin L’Hommiedieu and Emery Cottrell had two goals each for the Hawks (6-4).
