Ethan Neely helps John Marshall hold off University High

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — Ethan Neely homered and doubled Monday to lead the John Marshall baseball team to a 9-6 victory against University High.

The Hawks scored all six of their runs in the fifth inning, with Casey Smith, Noah Braham, Aaron Forbes and Drew Herter all driving in a run in the inning. Herter went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs for UHS.

Smith also had two RBIs for the Hawks.

Dillon Wright picked up the win for the Monarchs. He struck out five and walked five over 4.1 innings.

Softball
Clay-Battelle 1, Magnolia 0

Sydney Wilson pitched a complete-game shutout and also hit a solo home run to provide the winning run for the Cee-Bees.

Girls’ tennis
Morgantown 7, Bridgeport 0

Cat Wassick won her first No. 1 singles match of the season after moving over from the school’s basketball team with an 8-0 win over Virginia Noone to lead the Mohigans.

Her teammates quickly followed suit, as Amu Lu, Kassie Regules and Samantha Carver also won their singles matches to secure the victory.

MHS (10-0) will travel to Wheeling Park on Wednesday.

Boys’ tennis
Morgantown 6, Bridgeport 1

Ataes Aggarwal, Max Phillips-Hartley, Adien Aggarwal and Bennett Hall all swept their singles matches for the Mohigans.

MHS also had wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.

MHS (11-0) will travel to Wheeling Park at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Girls’ lacrosse
Morgantown 19, Preston 1

Hannah Calvert scored three goals for MHS and teammates Mallory Wiles, Sammie Gray and Aylssa Ulrich each had two.

Amelia Desai recorded six saves in goal for the Mohigans.

MHS (6-2) will travel to Fairmont Senior at 8 p.m. on May 20.
