Ally Jansen drives in winning run to lead University High past Wheeling Park

WHEELING — After collecting 11 hits, it was a sacrifice fly that handed the University High softball team a 2-1 victory on Thursday against Wheeling Park.

Trailing, 1-0, heading into the final inning, UHS tied the game on Lindsey Vorndran’s RBI double that scored Anna Voris and then Ally Jansen’s fly ball scored teammate Meysa Heitman for the go-ahead score.

UHS pitcher Autumn Stemple shut the Patriots’ bats down in the bottom of the seventh for the win.

Stemple pitched a complete game and allowed just three hits, struck out 12 and walked four.

But, UHS couldn’t capitalize on its 11 hits and left eight runners on base until the seventh.

Heitman had three hits for the Hawks and Vorndran, Voris and Madison Moon each had two hits.
