The University boys’ No. 1 and 2 doubles teams picked up sweeping wins over Dover (Ohio) and Morgantown, respectively, Monday at the OVAC Championships.

The Hawks’ top-seeded boys, Tommy McClellan and Andre Barcinas, easily defeated Dover, 8-3, while Jack Giobbia and Jameson Walters defeated their rival Mohigans, 8-2, for the No. 2 crown.

“Very proud of these four seniors,” coach Tom McClellan said. “They both played excellent as a team today. They should be proud of this accomplishment.”

Buckhannon-Upshur 7, Preston 4

Buckhannon Upshur defeated Preston 7-4 Tuesday night in a game that mirrored a recent match for the Knights.

“Like Capital, the Bucs were a mirror image of us,” coach Jeff Dreisbach said. “Only this time, they got the better of us. We have a lot more work to do to be successful.”

The Knights (0-2, 1-4 OA) and Buccaneers opened up knotting the match at 1-1 after the first quarter, but B-U picked up two goals in the second to take the lead at the half.

Preston managed to cut the deficit to one in the third, but the Bucs snapped back with four goals in the final quarter to pull away from Preston for the win.

Riley Land led the Knights in the loss with two goals, while J.J. Townsend and Skylar Logsdon added one apiece. Townsend added one assist. Zeke Lilly had two saves.

Preston returns to action on Friday against undefeated Wheeling Central. The match begins at 6 p.m.
