Emma Sansone

Emma Mae Hyer Sansone, 92, of Morgantown, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at her home. She was the daughter of the late Virgil T. and Lois Hyer, of Mannington. Emma Mae was born on Bertha Hill, Sept. 2, 1928.

She was a lifelong resident of Monongalia County and a 1946 graduate of University High School. She was part of the last graduating class of the Heiskell Memorial Hospital in 1950, where she finished her requirements to become a registered nurse. She enjoyed many years of nursing with the nuns of Saint Vincent Pallotti Hospital and retired from Mon Health Medical Center.

She was a dedicated nurse for more than 40 years, earning the respect and gratitude of friends, doctors and coworkers. She was also a volunteer at the library of Second Ward, an avid reader and accomplished writer.

Emma Mae has been a loving and caring mother and grandmother to many. She fulfilled her dream of wanting to be a teacher, caregiver, nurse and was a pillar of the old Greenmont Italian Society.
She is survived by one son, John J. Sansone and wife Laura, of Morgantown; one sister, Barbara Conner, of Ohio; two granddaughters, Celina Nestor and husband Scott and Ashley Kerr and husband Joe, all of Morgantown; and 10 great-grandchildren, Kyleigh, Hannah, Ayden, Isaiah, Jonah, Israel, Cameron, Emma, Bella and Leyah.

In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by her husband, John Sansone, and seven siblings.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 14, until the time of services at noon with Pastor Randy McDonald officiating. Emma will be laid to rest beside her husband John at the Lawnwood Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and caregivers of Morgantown Hospice for the extra special care given to Emma during the last several months.
