Welcome spring with fun

Finally, spring fever is hitting and hitting hard. The days are looking sunnier, lasting longer; the smell of growth and new beginnings fill the air.

I love seeing flowers come in to bloom and people being outside  riding bikes, going on walks, rollerblading, skateboarding, you name it. With sunny days ahead in April filled with cool breezes, it’s the perfect time to take advantage of the outdoors, try something new or even get back to doing something you used to love.

When was the last time you tried something new? Or maybe something out of your comfort zone? Try having one Fun Day — a day out of your week you choose to do something, anything, you want.

LiveHealthOnline.com has an amazing article on the benefits of scheduling time for yourself, from improving mental health, sparking creativity, boosting self-esteem, developing more empathy for others and heightened emotional intelligence. So even if you don’t have a whole day to take out of your busy life, scheduling time for yourself is a mature and beneficial add-in to your week.

Here is a list of activities to try out this spring, either by yourself or with a loved one for your very first Fun Day!

Visit a state park or forest — This is a great way to enjoy the sun and cool temperatures in spring while getting out and getting active, plus it’s free. Some suggestions: Coopers Rock State Forest in Bruceton Mills, Valley Falls State Park in Fairmont, Blackwater Falls State Park in Davis and Fairfax Stone Historical Monument State Park in Elgon.

Try whitewater rafting — Companies in Fayetteville offer guided trips through the New River Gorge with updated safety regulations for COVID-19. Take a chance and book a date with some of your closest friends to share memories for a lifetime.

Ziplining — The New River Gorge is also a great place to try ziplining. According to tripadvisor.com,  Adventures on the Gorge has a zip racing course  that zigs and zags across the ridgeline of a mountain bowl. “You’ll soar at dizzying heights of nearly 200 feet above the ground. These ziplines range from 500 to 3,170 feet, including one of the longest zip lines on the East Coast! Tours include up to 16 guests with three certified guides. A weight restriction of 100 to 260 pounds applies.”
