Loss inspires good deed

We all know the adage, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. But it takes a very special kind of person to take life’s lemons, turn them into lemonade and then to give away the lemonade for free.

We’d like to recognize the generosity of Sheila Perry, Pam Johnston, NinaMae Coberly and all the people who contributed to their GoFundMe to provide tablets to hospitals so families could communicate with loved ones despite the pandemic-induced visitation restrictions.

Perry and Johnston’s father — Coberly’s grandfather — was admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 in October and died in the hospital about two weeks later. During his stay, his family was only able to see and talk with him virtually, with hospital staff often using their own personal devices because there weren’t enough tablets to accommodate all the virtual visits.

These wonderful women took the lessons from their own struggle and in turn made it easier for others to have those precious — and possibly final — moments with loved ones. That takes a special kind of generosity and strength of spirit.

Perry said, “I know that (my father) would give me a thumbs-up for a good job on this.”

They get a thumbs-up from us, too.
