Puppy scam heartbreaking for family

KINGWOOD – Preston County resident Peggy Savage was looking forward to a new member of the family. Instead, she was scammed.

Savage was trying to find a basset hound puppy.

“We went online and found a puppy. Her name was Lea,” she said. “She was $800. They told us she had all of her shots but wasn’t chipped.”

Savage looked at all the photographs of Lea and watched two available videos of the puppy.

The online site Savage said she went to was McHill and Sandra.

“I was told I had to pay $600 down and the rest when Lea was delivered,” she said. “It was Saturday when I talked to them. They wanted the money the same day, so I sent it by Western Union.”

She said McHill and Sandra was supposed to call her Monday. The call never came.

“I called them and they told me the paperwork was not complete but would be within the hour,” Savage said. “They said they would call us and they did. They said the paperwork was done and Lea would be flying in to Morgantown.”

She said she told McHill and Sandra they had promised Lea would be delivered by her nanny, and not flown to Morgantown.

Savage said she was given an email address of the company that was supposed to deliver Lea.  She said it was info@globalaircountry.com.

“I contacted them to find out what time I was to pick Lea up. The man who answered the phone said I would have to send him $1,200 that would be refunded on delivery,” she said. “From there it went downhill.

“I went to stopscamfraud.com and reported them and I reported them to the state police,” Savage said.

She said she was told there was a 9 out of 10 chance she wouldn’t get her money back.

“It was heartbreaking. I already had a bed and toys for her,” Savage said. “She was supposed to be family.”
