A sampling of bills introduced Tuesday, March 16

MORGANTOWN – Here is a sampling of bills and resolutions introduced Tuesday, March 16. Local lead sponsors and co-sponsors, if any, are noted. Tuesday was the last day to introduce bills in the House of Delegates; this does not apply to appropriations bills, resolutions or concurrent resolutions.

HB 3176, to require sharps containers available in all state buildings facilities where public restrooms are available. Delegate Danielle Walker, D-Monongalia, sponsor.

HB 3188, to permit people with master’s degrees, regardless of the course of study, to take an examination for admission to practice law in West Virginia courts. Delegate Guy Ward, R-Marion, co-sponsor.

HB 3200, to direct the state auditor to develop and maintain a searchable website of funding actions and expenditures relating state and public roads, and to create the Special Road Repair Fund as a sub-account of the State Road Fund. Delegate Terri Sypolt, R-Preston, sponsor.

HCR 52, to rename the Mannington Arch, carrying Marion County 1 over Pyles Fork in Marion County as the WW II Veterans Toothman Brothers Memorial Bridge. Delegates Guy Ward and Phil Mallow, both R-Marion, and Joey Garcia, D-Marion, sponsors.

HCR 53, a portion of Interstate 68 from the Maryland state line to the intersection of Interstate 79 in Monongalia County, the President Donald J. Trump Highway. Delegates Buck Jennings, R-Preston, Amy Summers, R-Taylor, co-sponsors.

HCR 54, to rename a portion of Old Route 73 in Preston County as the Robin W. Ames Memorial Road. Sypolt, lead sponsor. Delegates Walker, Evan Hansen, Barbara Evans Fleischauer, John Williams, all D-Monongalia, and Joe Statler, R-Monongalia, co-sponsors.

HB 3178, to halt payment of salaries of all employees of state government, during periods of a pandemic, if private businesses are ordered closed. Emergency personnel are exempted.

HB 3187, to prohibit county boards of education from restricting parents from monitoring virtual instruction programs, and to provide for injunctive relief.

HB 3199, to ensure that students using school restrooms use the appropriate restroom that correlates with their biological sex.

HB 3258, to require that the party affiliation for county school board members be displayed beside their name on the ballot for election.

HB 3280, to create the crime of assault upon a regular citizen (non-police officer) by bodily fluid.
