The Mon Health Medical Center Auxiliary Ball of the Year will be held  Aug. 28. The fundraising event will be held outside at Pete Dye Country Club, with a VIP Progressive Golf Experience held the day before.

2021 Ball of the Year Chair, Sarah McBride, announced the theme of the 58th annual fundraising event: Appalachian Revival.

“When we began planning our annual Ball, I was filled with hope of what has been a pivotal year for many people in our community. Our community, nestled in the warmth of country simplicity and the invigorating pulse of innovation, is the perfect incubator for things beautiful and inspiring. What a better opportunity to celebrate our deep heritage and rich talent than with an Appalachian Revival,” McBride said.

“What I did not know at the time though, is how poignant and necessary a ‘revival’ would actually be. We, as a community, are navigating some awfully challenging days. What an honor it will be to band together in celebration and support of our local families.”

The 57th Annual Ball of the Year, held  Nov. 16, 2019, brought in funds totaling $208,000 to support the launch of a community-focused perinatal depression program. The program is the first of its kind in West Virginia and one of only 15 in the nation. Proceeds from the 2021 fundraiser will expand the perinatal depression program and will be designated to add additional healthcare providers and services.

“Providing postpartum care is a vital service to our communities, which we learned from the amount of funds donated to launch the perinatal depression program,” said Luella Gunter, Mon Health executive director of philanthropy. “The pandemic has brought to light several behavioral health issues plaguing our country. “We are thrilled to continue supporting our local families through this initiative.”

To ensure the protection of guests and adhere to coronavirus guidelines, the fundraising event was postponed from the annual November date.
