Company celebrates one year as new business during COVID-19 pandemic

Blue Sky Realty celebrated its one-year anniversary Friday in the form of a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Friday’s midday ceremony was held not only in celebration of the company’s anniversary, but also of a year’s worth of perseverance and hard work, said President of the Sales Division Stephanie Lemley.

The agents at Blue Sky Realty all have several years of experience in the real estate industry and decided to separate from their previous employers to start their own company. The company offers a range of sales expertise and options to their clients, including commercial, land and residential real estate.

Additionally, all Blue Sky Realty agents are members of both the National Association of Realtors and the West Virginia Association of Realtors.

“We’re a small company, but we are all knowledgeable [and] well-trained throughout the state of West Virginia,” Lemley said.

The company’s grand opening was Feb. 6, 2020, but celebrations were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite the challenges presented to small businesses by the pandemic, Blue Sky Realty managed to not only survive, but also thrive over the past year.

“We are definitely celebrating the triumphs and tribulations of COVID-19 and being able to be a new business. We’re very proud of that,” Lemley said.

Lemley said although the past year may not have been an accurate representation of what the future holds for Blue Sky Realty, she believes the willingness to adapt demonstrated by agents at the company is a good sign.

“We had to adapt to different types of showings, whether it be virtual. Sometimes we had to let buyers in a vacant property and go through with Clorox wipes and wear our masks and gloves, then go back through and clean on our way out. Most of the Realtors all over the industry have had to adapt to a different way,” Lemley said.

Lemley described Realtors as social people and said the biggest adjustment agents had to make was accepting that most of the in-person aspects of their job were no longer possible.

“I think that’s an indication that we’re here to stay,” Lemley said.

Agents at Blue Sky Realty were joined only by members of the Morgantown Chamber of Commerce at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which was held at Blue Sky Realty’s office, 213 Fayette St.
