DOH outlines Preston County road repair plan

KINGWOOD — A spring pothole blitz is going on in Preston County, according to a PowerPoint presentation presented by the West Virginia Division of Highways.

Darby Clayton, deputy state engineer of operations, and Aaron Stevens, DOH design engineer, held a Zoom meeting with Preston County Commissioners and Office of Emergency Management  personnel to discuss road repair, employees and completed projects.

The DOH quota for employees for Preston County is 55. The actual number of employees is 47, of which 40 are road workers.  Each employee is responsible for 16.40 miles of patching for paved and tar-and-chip-sealed roads.

Pothole repair begins on the sealed county roads in January. According to the presentation, work will continue on those roads until March 15, weather permitting.

Priority 1 and 2 routes, which are asphalt-paved routes, will have potholes filled from March 15 until Memorial Day, weather permitting.

The proposed patching and base failure repair for 2021 will be on Veterans Memorial Highway, W.Va. 7; North Mountaineer Highway, W.Va. 92; and Cranesville Road.

Proposed reclaimed roads for 2021 are: North Mountaineer Highway, W.Va 92, Dick Arthur Road; Kingwood Pike, CO 27, Green Valley Road;  Kingwood Pike, CO 27, Country Breeze Road; South Preston Highway, W.Va. 26, Old  W.Va. 26, near Jessop Road;  South Preston Highway, W.Va. 26, CO 26/74, Old W.Va. 26 Red Church Road; Campground Road, CO 59, Iron-Snider Road;  Herring Road, CO23, Nuce Road; Ridge Road, CO 21/2, Mt Nebo/Bull Run Road; Ridge Road, CO 21/2, Zion Road; Dogtown Road, CO 92/4 Sacks Run Road; Camp Dawson, CO 7/26, Camp Dawson/Country Club Road; John Mile, CO 15/2, Glade Road; Veterans Memorial Highway, W.Va. 7, Ash Polo Road; Ash Polo, CO 7/16, Cinder Bin Road; and Farm Gate/Barn, CO 7/15, Copeman Farm Road.

Proposed slide repair for this year will be Independence-Gladesville at Milepost 0.65 (92 feet).  Repair will require road closure for about a month.

The 3.44 mile PSE- Paving project on Rocky Drive to Cool Springs Park on U.S. 50 is scheduled to be completed this year. 

According to the DOH, all projects are subject to change due to available funding and priority repairs.
