Morgantown woman’s death ruled homicide

An autopsy confirmed Alexa Randolph’s death was a homicide.

The autopsy was performed Feb. 1 in the presence of county detectives at the office of the state’s chief medical examiner in Charleston, according to Monongalia County Sheriff Perry Palmer.

The medical examiner ruled the death 32-year-old Randolph a homicide. The official report, which will list the cause of death, will be released later.

“There’s no evidence to suggest it wasn’t an isolated incident,” Palmer said when asked if other women should be concerned.

Evidence has been obtained throughout the week as well as Randolph’s car, where her body was found, were taken to the West Virginia State Police Crime Lab for analysis, Palmer said.

The Morgantown Police Department, which initially started the investigation into Randolph’s disappearance when she was reported missing Jan. 28, and the Granville Police Department, have assisted in the investigation.

The sheriff’s office and MPD are continuing to follow leads to further the investigation, Palmer said.

Anyone with information about Randolph’s disappearance or death is asked to call 304-291-7218.

The MPD asked for the public’s help finding Randolph Jan. 29. She was found in the cargo area of her SUV in the parking lot of Walmart on Hornbeck Road about 4 p.m. that same day.

She was last seen about 2:45 p.m. Jan. 28, at her apartment on Overdale Street, in Morgantown’s Greenmont neighborhood.
