WVU reportedly hires Louisville safeties coach ShaDon Brown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Just a week after Jahmile Addae left WVU for Georgia, it appears the Mountaineers and head coach Neal Brown are set to hire Louisville safeties coach ShaDon Brown to a similar position, along with the co-defensive coordinator tag.

WVU has not yet confirmed the hire.

ShaDon Brown will likely work alongside Jordan Lesley, who maintained the front of the defense while Addae was responsible for the defensive backfield last season after defensive coordinator Vic Koenning left the program following an investigation for misconduct.

Brown worked at Louisville for two years, and prior, had stops at Colorado, Army and Wofford.

Brown is a Danville, Ky., native, the same hometown as Neal Brown, though each attended different high schools. ShaDon played at Danville High, while Neal graduated from Boyle County High.

Brown’s hiring will put the Mountaineers over the limit for on-field coaches, so it’s likely Jeff Casteel will return to his original role as defensive analyst. Casteel was promoted to coach outside linebackers following Koenning’s departure.

Andrew Jackson was hired last week from Old Dominion, and while defensive assignments will be named later, it is expected Jackson will coach the defensive line and Lesley will be in a more prominent role across the entire defense.
