Richard Allen Statler, 49, of Core (Mooresville Community) passed away Feb. 1, 2021, at his home.
He was born Aug. 3, 1971, at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown. He was the son of Gary and Janet Pekar Statler, also of Core.
In 1989 he graduated from Clay-Battelle High School where he excelled in golf. He worked for First Energy for 20 years. He served in the United States Navy for five years.
Besides having a passion for golf, he was also a fan of the Pittsburgh professional sports teams: Steelers, Penguins and Pirates. He was also a fan of West Virginia Mountaineer sports teams.
Richard is survived by two sons, Austin Richard Statler, of Washington, Pa., and Brennan David Statler, of Morgantown. Also surviving are his parents, Gary and Janet, and two sisters, Jackie (Daniel) Copeland, of Core, and Cathy (Austin) Barnard, of Newport News, Va. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Mark Johnson and Dr. Kristen Statler and the doctors and nurses of Morgantown Hospice who took extremely good care of him.
Family and friends will be received at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville from 5-8 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6 with the Rev. Freddie Eddy officiating. Interment will follow in the Olive Cemetery at Pentress.
