West Virginia makes top 5 for 2022 offensive lineman

By Keenan Cummings

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Chester (Va.) Life Christian 2022 offensive lineman Desaun Williams has a top five and West Virginia is one still in the running for his services.

Williams, at 6-foot-4 and 315 pounds, cut his list down to West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Kentucky, Michigan State and Maryland, with each of those schools standing out for many of the same reasons.

“I have a great relationship with each of those schools. They are consistent with me,” Williams said.

The Mountaineers have been involved for quite some time, led by the efforts of head coach Neal Brown and offensive line coach Matt Moore. They have been the primary contacts for Williams and he has developed a close connection with them over the last year after stopping by campus for a visit.

“They just can’t wait to get me back there so we can keep on building the relationship. I love those guys,” Williams said. “My relationship with them is sturdy and they have been consistent with me.”

The message from the coaches has been they can put Williams in the right position to succeed on and off the field, and he can do it by playing multiple spots on the offensive line.

“They are willing to put me where I fit best for the team to win,” he said.

Williams already visited West Virginia and was highly impressed with what he saw during that experience. He also has been to Pittsburgh and Maryland while planning to make stops at both Michigan State and Kentucky once the current recruiting dead period ends.

The Rivals.com 3-star prospect could slot as either a guard or tackle at the next level and has caught the attention of college programs for a number of reasons.

“They like that I’m strong and physical and athletic. I can move very good and get to the second level,” Williams said.

The talented offensive lineman plans to make a college decision June 1 and the plan is to find a school that has the right mix of educational opportunities and the right team aspects.

“I’m big on home away from home. I want to be comfortable being away from my actual home and comfortable with the whole staff,” he said.
