West Virginia’s balance beam, floor exercise lineups ranked No. 24

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The West Virginia balance beam and floor exercise lineups of the gymnastics team enters the top 25 of the Road to Nationals Rankings, as announced on Monday.

WVU (0-1, 0-1) is tied at No. 19 nationally on beam and ranks No. 22 overall on floor. The Mountaineers’ rankings are based on their scores earned in the team’s season-opening meet against the then-No. 2-ranked Oklahoma. Despite the loss, West Virginia earned the beam (48.825) and floor (48.900) team victories.

WVU sits just outside the top 25 in this week’s team poll, sharing the No. 26 spot with Ohio State. West Virginia also ranks No. 34 on bars (48.600) and is tied for No. 34 on vault (48.575).

Additionally, the Mountaineers rank No. 3 overall on beam and floor in the Big 12 Conference.

Individually, senior McKenna Linnen and junior Kendra Combs are ranked in the top 50 on floor. The duo is currently tied at No. 44 nationally after scoring matching 9.85s to lead the Mountaineers’ floor rotation last weekend. They also sit inside the top five of both the regional and conference standings, ranking as high as No. 4 in the Big 12 with Denver’s Lynnzee Brown and Abbie Thompson.

The Mountaineers travel to Norman, Okla., for their second consecutive dual meet with the No. 2-ranked Sooners (3-0, 1-0) at 8 p.m. Sunday, inside the Lloyd Noble Center. Competition will be televised on ESPNU.
