Richard and Emma Jean Luzader

Richard Eugene Luzader, 90, of Tunnelton, died on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021, at Mon Health Medical Center and his wife of 68 years, Emma Jean Montell Luzader, 84, of Tunnelton, followed him in death on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021, at Preston Memorial Hospital.

Richard was born Nov. 9, 1930, in Preston County, a son to the late Earl Edward and Thelma Virginia (Case) Luzader. Emma Jean was born Feb. 8, 1936, in Preston County, a daughter of the late Archie Monroe Knotts and Lelah Montell (Wolfe) Tomlinson.

Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. During three years of service, he also worked putting phone lines in Japan. He retired in 1995 as a welder for Greenbrier Aggregates Inc. Emma Jean had been a health service worker for Hopemont State Hospital. They both enjoyed farm life, gardening, hunting, fishing, camping and watching sports, especially the WVU Mountaineers, Pittsburgh Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys. Emma Jean enjoyed baking, canning and collecting cookbooks.

They are survived by one son, Richard Edward Luzader Sr., of Tunnelton; one daughter, Sharon Luzader, of Tunnelton; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Emma Jean is also survived by three brothers, Eugene and Janet Knotts, of Walker, Hallie and Beverly, of Manheim, and Denzil and Roberta Knotts, of Thornton.

In addition to their parents, they were preceded in death by their daughter-in-law, Esther Luzader.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price St. from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, and from 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, until the time of the funeral service in the funeral home chapel at noon with Pastor Terry K. Hagedorn officiating. Interment will follow at Sanders Hill Cemetery in Tunnelton. Military honors will be accorded by the Preston County Honor Guard and WVANG Military Funeral Honors, Camp Dawson. Social distancing and masks are required.
