KINGWOOD — The Preston County Courthouse Annex will reopen to walk-in traffic Monday, but with some limitations.

Last week the building was closed to walk-in traffic, except by appointment, because of a reduction in available staff caused by COVID-19.

On Friday, Commission President Don Smith said in a news release  staffing levels have improved enough to reopen Monday.

“To reduce wait time, we want to encourage people to call ahead and make an appointment. Also, we have online services available,” Smith said.

Online services are accessible through the county webpage, www.prestoncountywv.gov. Staff will also be available to answer questions by phone.

The annex,  across W.Va. 7 from the courthouse, houses the county commission, county clerk, assessor, prosecuting attorney, health department and tax office.

Those who enter the building will still have to wear masks and social distance. The building is open  8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

To reach the county clerk’s office, call 304-329-0070; the assessor, 304-329-1220; the county commission, 304-329-1805; the prosecutor, 304-329-1885; the tax office, 304-329-0105; and the health department, 304-329-0096.
