Two charged with robbery in Brookhaven shooting incident

MORGANTOWN — Two men are charged with armed robbery in connection with the Monday morning shooting on Brookhaven Road.

Jared McLean, 43, and Nicholas Britton, 35, both of Morgantown, are each charged with first-degree robbery and conspiracy by the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were sent to 89 Brookhaven Road for a reported shooting about 7:19 a.m.

When they arrived, the victim had multiple visible injuries and said he was shot, according to a criminal complaint. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

On Monday, Chief Deputy Al Kisner said most of the victim’s wounds were from jumping out of a window and a gunshot wound was not found during an examination.

Britton and McLean were both arrested running away from the area by responding officers, the complaint said.
In an interview, both men said they went to the residence to rob the victim, according to the complaint.

During a fight, there was a struggle over a firearm and the victim was hit in the head with a blunt object multiple times, the complaint said. The gun went off which caused everyone to scatter.

Britton and McLean went out the door and the victim jumped out a second story window “in an effort to get to safety,” the complaint said.

Kisner said neither suspect had a gun when they were arrested and as far as he’s aware, one hasn’t been found yet.
Both men were arraigned by Magistrate Ron Bane and are being held in North Central Regional Jail in lieu of $75,000 bond.
