KINGWOOD-- The Preston County Health Department verified six additional COVID-19 deaths Monday, bringing the total number of COVID-related deaths in the county to 25.

Preston Health Department Administrator V.J. Davis clarified that not all occurred in one day.

"We cannot report a death until we receive confirmation from attending physicians that death was COVID-related. In some cases, it takes a few days to receive this confirmation. The above deaths were over the course of the last few days," Davis wrote in a news release Monday afternoon.

The most recent deaths were women aged 92, 88, 87 and 86; and 79- and 81-year- old men.

The department also reported 31 additional COVID-19 cases, for a total of 1,276 confirmed cases and 97 probable cases.
