Newsroom@DominionPost.com

The Mountaineer Audubon Christmas Bird Count is scheduled for Saturday.

This year, due to COVID-19, participation will be run according to safe and distanced standards.   There are  guidelines at mountaineeraudubon.org.

To participate,  check the map and participant list at mountaineer audubon.org/index.php/cbc/.

Register to participate with contact compiler  LeJay Graffious at LeJay@oldhemlock.org

Sector leaders will confirm which area within the sector the small groups are to cover.

The bird count could bring some northern finches, which  have not been seen for the past several years.   The count area  had evening grosbeak, white-winged crossbill and common redpoll reported in November.

The group also wants to increase the number of feeder counts.    If you are within the count area, survey your feeder and any neighboring feeders on the count day.
