The Morgantown Art Association will  host its annual winter bazaar through December.

Items for sale include paintings, pottery, cards, jewelry, wood carvings, glassware and soaps, as well as a variety of other handmade products. All items are priced at $100 or less.

The bazaar will be  at the Morgantown Art Association Gallery. All visitors to the gallery must wear face masks, practice social distancing and abide by the limited number of people permitted in the building in accordance with COVID-19 procedures.

Volunteer workers at the gallery are trained in these procedures to ensure the health and safety of visitors to the gallery.

Priscilla Bell, a representative of  MAA, said it’s important to create and view art in stressful or uncertain times.

“Often art is an escape from a bleak reality, whether from enjoying a product of creativity or from going into a zone of you as the creator,” she said. “Art also enables you to express your reality in a unique language. The visual arts give a lasting reminder of the feelings of the times in which they are created. A record, as it were, of what people were enduring, celebrating or rediscovering,” Bell said.

Bell also said now more than ever is the time to support local artists, who may be struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Especially during this time, when so many venues are denied to us, supporting local businesses and organizations is vital. This support of locals will spread, as we help each other to hang on during these trying times. Hopefully it will enable us all to get through the other side of this pandemic,” Bell said.

The Morgantown Art Association Gallery is   in   Mountaineer Mall on Green Bag Road. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m.  Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.  Individuals are encouraged to call the gallery at 304-291-5900 for more information on the bazaar and other events.

The Morgantown Art Association is  a membership program, which is open to “all artists, art lovers and supporters of art in our area,” according to the association.

Members must be 18 or older and pay yearly dues of $35, which allows the member to participate in monthly shows, Kappa Tau and art classes.

Those interested in becoming a member of the Morgantown Art Association should reach out to Sally Digman at sal.digman@gmail.com or by calling the gallery. Applications for membership are also available at the gallery and online at morgantownartassociation.com.
