Police chase ends in crash

Pursuit started in Pa., finished on local road

A police chase that started in Pennsylvania ended in Monongalia County on Wednesday, when the driver crashed into a fence on Mooresville Road.

At about 5 p.m., the New Cumberland Township Police Department notified the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department and West Virginia State Police of a vehicle pursuit coming into the county, Chief Deputy Al Kisner said.

Police were chasing a vehicle driven by Ronald Ray Conard Jr., 31, because he had arrest warrants for property crimes and aggravated assault in Greene County, Pa., Kisner said.

He said the pursuit came down Interstate 79 by mile marker 156, with the suspect going back into Pennsylvania to the Mount Morris area then back into West Virginia, where the sheriff’s department and state police joined the chase again.

Conard crashed the vehicle into a fence on Mooresville Road and was taken to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital and then North Central Regional Jail, where he is being held without bond, Kisner said.

A passenger in the vehicle, Courtney Carubia, posted a Facebook live video, which appears to show the chase. Kisner said Carubia was not charged.
