West Virginia volleyball team set to take on Oklahoma to cap 2020 slate

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The No. 14-ranked West Virginia volleyball team caps its 2020 fall slate with a two-match series at Oklahoma on Thursday and Friday.

“We have to take care of business,” WVU sixth-year coach Reed Sunahara said. “That has been the message every day this week. Not just this week, but every week. The players have done a nice job of staying focused and getting better every day. Oklahoma is a good team. They are historically good. It will be a challenge.”

The Mountaineers and Sooners will meet for the 18th time overall Thursday. OU owns a 16-1 all-time series advantage and is 15-1 against WVU since the Mountaineers joined the Big 12 in 2012.

WVU has won a program-best seven conference matches and sits in fourth place in the Big 12 standings. The last time the Mountaineers won six or more conference matches was in 2017, when they finished 21-13 and advanced to the semifinals of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship.

Last week, West Virginia dropped a pair of matches to No. 1 Texas at the WVU Coliseum.

Oklahoma looks to snap a four-match losing streak in its fall finale, following a pair of losses at Texas Tech last week.

Both contests are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., at McCasland Field House, in Norman, Okla., and will be carried live on FOX Sports Oklahoma.
