Election night no contest for Preston’s uncontested candidates

Preston County has estimated 72.43% voter turnout

KINGWOOD — Preston County’s estimated voter turnout Tuesday was 72.43%.

County Clerk Linda Huggins said 14,637 ballots were cast, a new record.

All the ballots were in and unofficial totals compiled by 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Still to be dealt with are more than 100 provisional ballots and any votes by mail that come in.

Election night wasn’t a race for Preston’s uncontested candidates.

Republican Assessor Connie Ervin was unopposed in the primary as well. She garnered 10,679 votes in unofficial results Tuesday, earning a second term.

Incumbent Prosecuting Attorney Melvin C. Snyder III chose not to seek re-election. The only contender for his seat in the primary or general was former assistant prosecutor Jay Shay, who got 10,508 votes Tuesday in unofficial results.

Surveyor Ken Moran was one of the few Democrats on the ballot in Preston County. He was unopposed for surveyor and got 9,015 votes in unofficial totals.
