HOW THEY SCORED: Texas Tech 34, West Virginia 27

FIRST QUARTER

TEXAS TECH TOUCHDOWN: Henry Colombi 1-yard run (9:29), Texas Tech leads, 7-0.

After forcing a three-and-out on West Virginia’s first possession, the Red Raiders drove 69 yards in 10 plays and Colombi — now Texas Tech’s starting QB after Alan Bowman was benched — scored on a short run on fourth-and-goal.

Colombi was 5 of 5 passing for 53 yards in his first drive.

WVU TOUCHDOWN: Leddie Brown 3-yard run (7:41), game is tied, 7-7.

The Mountaineers responded with quarterback Jarret Doege first connecting with Sam James for 32 yards down the sideline in one-on-one coverage and then Doege found tight end Mike O’Laughlin for 34 more yards on a fake reverse play that was pitched back to Doege.

Brown made a nice cutback to the left to score untouched on his short TD run.

TEXAS TECH TOUCHDOWN: SaRodorick Thompson 48-yard run (1:35), Texas Tech leads, 13-7.

Thompson broke right through the middle of the line and then raced toward the right sideline and took it to the house.

The extra-point attempt was no good when the hold was botched.

SECOND QUARTER

WVU FIELD GOAL: Evan Staley 41-yard kick (9:00), Texas Tech leads, 13-10.

The Mountaineers missed out on a touchdown reception from Brown on this drive when his TD was called back by a holding penalty by John Hughes.

Instead, WVU had to settle for a field goal and Staley’s kick was true.

TEXAS TECH TOUCHDOWN: Trey Cleveland 11-yard pass from Colombi (2:36), Texas Tech leads, 20-10.

West Virginia thought it had a fumble recovery on this drive, but it was overruled and WVU was hit with an unsportsmanlike penalty when a player from the bench ran onto the field to celebrate.

Texas Tech took advantage by converting a fourth-and-10 with a 14-yard pass to Erik Ezukanma and then Colombi found Cleveland, who just barely got into the end zone before being brought down.

WVU FIELD GOAL: Staley 45-yard kick (0:00), Texas Tech leads, 20-13.

The Mountaineers ended the half by converting a short fourth-down run and then Doege found Isaiah Esdale across the middle for 13 yards. Esdale got down quickly and called a timeout to set up the kick.

THIRD QUARTER

WVU TOUCHDOWN: T.J. Banks 2-yard pass from Doege (13:41), game is tied, 20-20.

WVU defensive lineman Dante Stills set up the Mountaineers with a short field after recovering a fumble by Ja’Lynn Polk at the Texas Tech 24.

After Doege hit Winston Wright for 20 yards, he found a wide-open Banks off play-action at the goal line.

TEXAS TECH TOUCHDOWN: Tahj Brooks 5-yard run (10:05), Texas Tech leads, 27-20.

The Red Raiders drove right through West Virginia’s defense on a 9-play, 73-yard drive.

Brooks went off the right side after Texas Tech had motion going to the left on the TD and Ezukanma also had a nice 20-yard reception to set it up.

WVU TOUCHDOWN: Brown 1-yard run (6:00), game is tied, 27-27.

The drive belonged to Winston Wright Jr., who converted a fake punt into an 8-yard run for a first down and then hauled in a 38-yard pass on a seam route.

FOURTH QUARTER

TEXAS TECH TOUCHDOWN: Zech McPhearson 56-yard fumble return (8:44), Texas Tech leads, 34-27.

WVU receiver Sam James took in a pass behind the line of scrimmage and lost the ball as he was being tackled.

McPhearson scooped it up and was off to the races.
